2021

With the pandemic lockdown still continuing, not much happening apart from local (Lincoln) walks and cycles which have been added to this site but not counted in the walks total!

January - March

Still under lockdown so only local.

April

Finally allowed to go somewhere but not allowed to stay overnight which means restricted to day trips such as to the Yorkshire Dales.  First trip to Ingleborough from Ingleton - not the best route to the summit!  With only day trips still allowed, managed 3 more walks up Ingleboroughy - all from Chapel le Dale.

May

Had a walk up Great Whernside from Kettlewell.  The rest of the month was a washout!

June
Walked up Buckden Pike from Buckden returning via Starbotton and River Wharfe path.  At end of month walked up Middle Moor ridge from Litton then onto Birks Fell and trig point.

July

Started month with a double walk.  Firstly up Great Knoutberry Hill followed by a drive then ascent of Dodd Fell Hill.  A few days later, went up Rogan's Seat via Swinner Gill from Muker.  Possibly the least interesting summit in the Yorkshire Dales!  Another few days later, went up Nine Standards Rigg from the Nateby to Keld Road.  And another few days later went to Burnhope Seat in the North Pennines.  Preliminary research found lost of people saying how horrible and boggy it was.  Nothing could be further from the truth on my visit.  It might get a bit boggy in winter but, after all, it is high Pennine moorland!

Late July

Had a week in Killin, Loch Tay, mainly collecting extra photos for existing walks to Meall na Fearna, Meall an Fhudair and Cam Chreag (Glen Lyon) but also added a new route up Beinn Oighreag from the east.  An unusual heatwave with not even a breeze on the mountains.

August
On the way to Killin, ascended Cold Fell, near Hallbankgate, Brampton.  It was a typical high moorland hill so common in the Northern Pennines.  A few days later. climbed the very popular Ben An/A'an in the Trossachs followed by Benvane by its north ridge from Ballimore.  On 10/8, climbed Ben Our, near Ben Vorlich, a much tougher walk than the map would suggest!  On 12/8, had a very pleasant walk up Blairdenon Hill (Ochils) from near to the former Sheriffmuir Inn made famous in the 1970s as the home of Hercules the grizzly bear!  On 14/8, climbed Beinn Bhalgairean using the Succoth track.  On 15/8, went to find the cave of the killer rabbit that featured in Monty Python and the Holy Grail.  Despite serious parking difficulties, the cave was easy to find and looked exactly like as in the film.  Previous visiotrs have palced white fuffy bunnies by the entrance! Back home, headed for teh newly promoted Calf Top (now over 2000 feet) in the western Yorkshire Dales.  Pleasant walk marred only by a lazy, offensive notice by Mill House on the descent.

September
Went to the trig point on Yockenthwaite Moor, near Buckden.  Many regard this as the boggiest walk in the area so went towards the end of a long, dry spell and had no problems.  Later in the month, had a very pleasant walk over Green Bell and Randygill Top in the Howgills.  It was so pleasant that I returned a week later to walk over White Fell, The Calf and Fell Head.

October

Walked the high section of the Mallerstang Edge from Aisgill, taking in Little Fell, Hugh Seat. Gregory Chapel and High Seat plus much of the actual Mallerstang Edge.  Very boggy and mossy in some of the cols!

November

Headed for a walk not far from the Tan Hill Inn: Water Crag & Rogan's Seat via William Gill which took in some rough and pathess high moorland.
