Introduction
With a bicycle, this is almost a half day “walk” as the track is more of a road than a track for most of its length. On the return, one can free wheel much of the way back. Surprisingly, the generally excellent SMC Corbetts guide describes this walk as “uninteresting” which seems rather unfair as splendid views can be enjoyed all the way especially to Ben Alder, Beinn Pharlagain, Carn Dearg & Sgor Gaibre, Beinn Mholach, The Fara, Schiehallion, White Corries, Ben Lawers range, Tarmachan range and Carn Gorm range not to mention most of Loch Ericht.
Route
(1) The locked vehicle gate has a sign saying Corrievarkie Lodge (which is beyond the hill). To the side is a smaller unlocked gate for walkers and cyclists. Go up the track, ignoring a left fork (grassy track). Continue around the top of the wood and after about 5 km, reach a junction where the left fork goes to the S Loch Ericht dam. Take the right fork and continue for about another 8 km to reach the summit of the track where there is a small cairn. Leave the bicycle here and head roughly WNW up pathless but easy slopes to reach a medium cairn, perched above steep slopes dropping to Loch Ericht, which marks the summit of Stob an Aonaich Mhoir, 855 m. It takes little more than half an hour from the track to the summit.
(2) Return by the route of ascent which, if cycling, takes little more than an hour.

(a) This walk took place on 10th August, 2000 and 12th July, 2012.
