Introduction

This is a pleasant walk which follows the track bed of the dismantled old railway which ran from Manchester to Sheffield via the Woodhead valley. The current line runs via Edale. There is no gradient but plenty of puddles in wet weather. There are good views of the edges overlooking the Longdendale valley as well as the scenic reservoirs. The walk is a “there and back” walk which can be done from either end. This walk is best undertaken in early November when the Autumn colours are at their best.

Route

(1) From the Torside car park, gain the trail and start walking along it. Reach the Woodhead tunnels after nearly 6 km.

(2) Retrace back to Torside.

Notes

(a) This walk took place on 12th November, 2019.
