OS 1:50 000 Sheet 110: Sheffield & Huddersfield      OS Outdoor Leisure 1: Dark Peak.

Introduction

This is a pleasant walk which follows the track bed of the dismantled old railway which ran from Manchester to Sheffield via the Woodhead valley. The current line runs via Edale. There is no gradient but plenty of puddles in wet weather. There are good views of the edges overlooking the Longdendale valley as well as the scenic reservoirs. There are toilets at Torside car park. The walk is a “there and back” walk which can be done from either end although there is a pay and display at Torside car park. Those who wish to walk one way, have a coffee, etc, then walk back must start at Torside then go into Padfield town centre as there are no guaranteed refreshment facilities at Torside. This walk is best undertaken in early November when the Autumn colours are at their best.

Route

(1) From the Padfield car park, gain the trail and start walking along it. Reach Torside after about 5 km.

(2) Retrace back to Padfield.

Notes

(a) This walk took place on 11th November, 2019.
