Giants Causeway

Giants Causeway

This is world famous and has over a million visitors each year.  It is owned by the National Trust who charge for parking and admission to their visitor centre but it is free to NT members.  Access to the Giants Causeway and surrounding area is free even to non-members provided you don't need to use the car park or visitor centre.  It is easy to find, just head for the small town of Bushmills then follow the signs.

There are various walking routes which are well signed and there is a bus (free to members) from the visitor centre to the Giants Causeway.  No walking routes are suggested here but several photos are uploaded for those who wish to browse. It should be noted that the mid-level walk is now closed at the eastern end of the bay containing the Giants Causeway because of rock falls.  The path on the top of the cliffs remains open but care is needed near the edge which is not fenced off.

The Giants Causeway itself is made up of thousands of mainly hexagonal basalt columns.  The NT staff are very knowledgeable about the origin of the causeway and can be approached with any questions you may have.
